Welcome to the Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association
The Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association is one of the largest of 38 industry-specific associations within VDMA. The many different engineering products produced in this field make it a very heterogeneous sector.
More than 300 member companies manufacture bakery machines, meat processing machines, beverage production and dairy technology, confectionery machines, machines and equipment for vegetable raw material processing, packaging machines, and machinery and installations for producing pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary edition of "Lebensmitteltechnik", Dr. Peter Golz, deputy managing director of the Fachverband Nahrungsmittelmaschinen und Verpackungsmaschinen (German Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association), comments on the future prospects of the German food processing and packaging machinery industry.
This year's general meeting of the department "Machinery and Equipment for Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics" will take place on Tuesday, 17 March 2020 in Frankfurt (industry meeting with dinner the evening before). Invitation and agenda will be sent to the member companies of the "Machinery and Equipment for Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics" department in the second half of January.
The VDMA trade association publication No. 10 (new edition 2016) specifies Aspergillus brasiliensis (DSM 1988/ATCC 16404) as the test germ for the validation of packaging disinfection using the pulse light method. On the basis of the test commissioned by ClaraNor, the issuing VDMA working group "Schnittstellenproblematik bei Aseptikanlagen" names Penicillium chrysogenum DSM 844 (spore suspension produced by Fraunhofer IVV, Freising) as a further test microorganism for the validation of packaging disinfection using the Pulsed Light process.
At its general meeting on 8 November 2017 in Seeheim-Jugenheim, the members of the VDMA of Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association elected their new board of directors as scheduled. The board is elected for a term of four years.
Munich, 11 September 2017 – The German mechanical engineering industry is expected to grow significantly again in 2017. The signs for this are getting more clear: machinery production rose by 2.4 percent in the first half of 2017. Order intake in July was 10 percent higher than in the previous year.
Order intake in the food processing and packaging machinery sector increased by 23 percent in real terms. The Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association expects demand to pick up further in the coming months.
The Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association within VDMA, the conceptual sponsor of drinktec, is organizing a comprehensive supporting program at the world leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid foods industry.
Fatima Abdelfatah studied mechanical engineering and telecommunications at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canary and belongs to the team that worked on the VDMA smart4i demonstrator. She talks to us about her task and challenges concerning this industry 4.0 project and about her future.
The smart4i Demonstrator in the VDMA Technology Lounge shows how it is possible already with today’s state of the art machinery and components to realize the vision of Industry 4.0 and the individualization of products up to lot size 1.
The German food processing and packaging machinery manufacturing companies look forward to the interpack trade fair full of confidence. “For years, our industry has shown a positive development and the German manufacturers can look back on a record year," said Richard Clemens, Managing Director of the VDMA Food Packaging and Packaging Machinery Association, at interpack 2017 in Düsseldorf.
